Stakeholder Identification
Introduction
Stakeholder identification forms the first step in an effective stakeholder management. It helps to identify who/what the various stakeholders are and define their involvement, support and commitment to the initiative/project/program. Stakeholders can be a person, a group/team of people, or an entity like an institution or organisation.
Stakeholder identification aims at establishing not only the identities, roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, but also their level of involvement and influence in the initiative/project/program.
A handy reference for identifying the key stakeholders is the very definition of stakeholder. It states a stakeholder as "anyone who has an interest in, or may be affected by, the issue under consideration". It is also important to note the stakeholders that are external to the organisation, but have an influence on the initiative/project.
Some of the techniques that help with the stakeholder identification are:

- Stakeholder Categories
