Force Field Analysis - Kurt Lewin's Model
Introduction
The force-field analysis model is handy at identifying the forces and factors that are supportive (positive) and/or opposing (negative) the proposed change initiative. This model, proposed by Kurt Lewin, is used to arrive at the net impact of all these factors on the project and is a great tool to help take the go or no-go decisions.
The force-field analysis helps identify all the factors that are for the change initiative and also those that are against it. For each of these factors, we can add a value similar to the impact it has on the initiative. This value can be positive or negative, depending on the factor or force being a supportive or opposing force. The sum total of all the positive and negative forces are then used to arrive at the net force.
A decision can be taken based on the value of the net force along with considering whether its supporting or opposing the change initiative.
